ABOUT THE ART

These pieces are from the HOLOCENE Series: The Holocene is the current geographical epoch. The Holocene corresponds with the rapid proliferation, growth, and impacts of the human species worldwide, including all of its written history, technological revolutions, development of major civilizations, and overall significant transition towards urban living in the present. More specifically, humans and Nature. Time is gargantuan, and the natural world ticks right along with it. Humans are a blip, yet we are affecting this equation. As resilient as humans can be, it is no match for the awe-someness of Nature. This series is about the communion between both and the many narratives of renewal, growth, and rebirth. The sublime of nature, of man, the overwhelm of the entire picture of mankind - it's in these works I believed it fit the theme of arrival, as in the slow arrival of time and the earth to where we are now. The arrival of the human species.

Medium: Mixed media of acrylics, inks, oils, collage, pastels on canvas and archival watercolor paper

about the artist

Sean Hemeon is an artist living and working in Los Angeles, CA. He is a self-taught accomplished painter whose work draws from various sources, including the founding New York School of Expressionistic Artists and contemporary culture and work as a performer. He was the resident artist at HaleARTS Space in Santa Monica, CA, featured in shows in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and most recently at the downtown International LA Art show. "I paint with energy. I paint with emotion. I paint with impact. For me, painting isn't much about what is represented but how it is painted. It is an experience captured. A still life of an emotion. Art is one of the sources through which the soul expresses itself and inspires others. But to express art thoroughly, one must have the inner emotions opened thoroughly. And, that, is what's put on the canvas.”
